Thanks to the team macromedia folks that are making my transition to CSS painless. I had been putting off the real CSS styling and have continued to use tables to avoid unfamiliar ground. I'm having such a great time with CSS positioning that every time I see some of my old code, I just want to rip it up and start over.

About me

I have been working as a web designer roughly eight years, right before my first daughter Keanna was born. I have a business administration background and had been working in the export industry for a little while before I decided to become curious about web development in 1997. I quickly became almost obsessed with building websites and I was having so much fun that I decided to take online tutorials of all kind HTML, JavaScript, graphic programs, you name it. It was then shortly thereafter that I started building websites for small businesses and helping them with a professional look online.

I always had an eye for design, I paint in acrylics and have a lot of fun doing so, it was only natural that web design became a favorite thing to do for me. When my family and I moved to Alaska, I had the opportunity to work with Geonorth right before the company split and I became part of the team of E-Terra, a GIS/Database developing company that offered me the chance to grow as a web developer. I learned database integration to online applications and developed marketing online and offline marketing pieces for the company as well as their corporate website.

In 2003, my baby daughter was born. My husband and I decided to open our virtual tour business 360 View Alaska. It would give me the opportunity to take care of the kids and I will continue to work online which was something I wasn't willing to give up easily. Unfortunately, the Anchorage real estate market is so successfull, they hardly saw a need for this kind of service. I needed to be busier.

A great opportunity at the University of Alaska Anchorage came along for me. I became part of the design team at Educational Media Services and I've been with them for almost a year. This job gives me the opportunity to develop learning applications which are quite different than commercial applications but always follow the same principles of user interaction and accessibility. I work with a great group of people that really care to produce quality work for our students.

Other activities

After my duties as a wife, mother and multimedia designer, I enjoy volunteering my time to develop websites for non-profits and schools and church. My latest projects include Abbott Loop Elementary, Anchorage Waterways Council and Great Land Christian Church. I am also an active member of the Macromedia users group in Anchorage as a membership coordinator, Check out the website http://www.akmmug.org and bring a friend to the meeting this month, you can get points to win a full version of Studio MX.
